A Good Pair of Brass Barrelled Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistols With Spring Bayonets by J. & W. Richards, circa 1808. 17cm slightly swamped brass barrels and turned cannon shaped muzzles fitted with under mounted triangular bladed spring bayonets, operated by pulling back on the sliding trigger-guard. Overall length 31cm.

Side mounted horn tipped wooden ramrods, boxlock actions both sides decorated with trophies of arms the right-side also marked LONDON and the left-side with the makers name J & W RICHARDS. Centre cock with sliding bar safety, fitted with walnut slab-sided grips. In good working order. Overall length 31cm.
Provenance: Pistols of this type were apparently favoured by naval officers. The makers were Joseph and William Richards who operrated from 16 Staining Lane, and 62 Strand London.
