This antique example was made sometime between 1882 - 1925 by The M. C. Lilley & Co. of Columbus, Ohio and bears the name of Marion Sewell etched on the blade. Also on the straight blade are various scenes relating to aspects of Pythian Order. The langet has the letters UR on it standing for Uniformed Rank which was a militaristic form of the organisation which was popular in the aftermath of the American Civil War. The leather grip is held in place with decorative wire and the pommel takes the form of a mans head wearing a helmet with a lion on top. This signifies the highest rank attainable within the organisation, that of Knighthood. There are remnants of the chain knuckle bow remaining. The metal scabbard has a depiction of Samson from the bible pulling down pillars and representing strength. Above this there are the letter FCB which stand for Friendship, Charity and Benevolence. Like the blade the metal scabbard is in good condition with nice age related patina, there is a small split at the very bottom of the scabbard. Overall Length - 35 1/2 ". Blade Length - 28".
