An Antique Cased Pair of 25 Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols by H.W Mortimer, Gunmaker to His Majesty, circa 1785-90. Converted from flintlock, with octagonal sighted barrels, one retaining traces of makers details along the top flat, engraved breeches each signed in gothic script with the converters name Harvey on the top flat.
An Antique Cased Pair of 25 Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols by H.W Mortimer, Gunmaker to His Majesty, circa 1785-90. Converted from flintlock, with octagonal sighted barrels, one retaining traces of makers details along the top flat, engraved breeches each signed in gothic script with the converters name Harvey on the top flat, engraved tangs each incorporating a back-sight, signed border engraved flat detented locks each decorated with banners on the stepped tail, engraved safety-catches, figured full stocks (some bruising, fore-ends repaired) with chequered rounded butts, each pommel carved with radiating flutes, steel spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial and engraved with a trophy on the bow, set triggers, turned ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods (steel parts with some wear overall): in later lined and fitted oak case with some accessories including three-way brass-mounted powder-flask with body of tapering ovoidal section embossed with two vertical lines of beadwork over each side, bullet mould, turnscrew, nipple key, oil bottle and cap container. The exterior of the lid with circular vacant brass escutcheon, London proof marks. Barrel length 23.4cm, overall length 40cm.
