An antique pair of Ottoman 32 bore flintlock holster pistols dating from the early 19th century.
An antique pair of Ottoman 32 bore flintlock holster pistols. Early 19th century with two stage barrels, 28.5cm with slender gold line around the muzzle and silver foresight centred on a gold starburst. Octagonal breeches encrusted with engraved gold foliage at each end of the three top flats. Spurious gold encrusted signature between gold encrusted tangs. Each engraved with Arabic calligraphy. Overall length, 42cm. Bright rounded locks, each with spurious signature and engraved with foliage. Foliate engraved pierced cocks, semi rain proof bands and steels, the latter each baring against a roller. Figured full stocks profusely engraved with silver wire scrollwork and engraved silver foliage against a ground of silver pins. Cast and chased silvered copper mounts in the English manner, comprising pierced foliate side plates. Spurred pommels, each with foliate cap. Trigger guards each with scallop shell finale. Engraved silver for end caps, turned ramrod pipes and engraved false ramrods. Gold lined counterfeit proof marks and barrel smith mark.
These pistols are of extremely good quality and just about the nicest that come onto the market.
