An antique Balkan 20 bore flintlock pistol with nielloed silver guild stock. Ioannia, 19th century.
An antique Balkan 20 bore flintlock pistol with nielloed silver guild stock. Ioannia 19th century. The barrel measures 26cm and is inlayed with silver with an inscription along the sighting flat and with silver scrollwork at the breach. Overall length 45cm. Silver guilt tang cover with ovoidal sighting groove. Beveled flat lock roughly engraved with a trophy of arms beneath the rain proof barrel. Engraved cock, pierced mount over the steel spring, full stock with curved butt cast and chased overall in low relief with foliage involving a trophy of arms beneath the for-end and behind the barrel tang, the latter surmounted by a female figure with her head in her hands. All the decoration within nielloed ribbon like borders interrupted by nielloed flower heads and against finally punched grounds, partly diagonally fluted pommel, trigger guard and muzzle sleeve en-suite with a stock. Gilded trigger , false ramrod, and retaining much original gilding.
