A pair of Spanish 14 bore Percussion pistols by Mendizabal Nen Placencia circa 1820. With blued, two stage barrels, 21cm, each with turned ring at the muzzle. Girdle chiseled with ancanthus with punched gold ground, octagonal breech inlaid with engraved silver foliage and with three gold-lined makers purzones, between 3 gold-lined fleur de lys, border engraved breeches and tangs lightly decorated with foliage, border engraved flat locks, each stuck with makers punzon and engraved with initials LGL. .

A pair of Spanish 14 bore Percussion pistols by Mendizabal Nen Placencia circa 1820. With blued, two stage barrels, 21cm, each with turned ring at the muzzle. Girdle chiseled with ancanthus with punched gold ground, octagonal breech inlaid with engraved silver foliage and with three gold-lined makers purzones, between 3 gold-lined fleur de lys, border engraved breeches and tangs lightly decorated with foliage, border engraved flat locks, each stuck with makers punzon and engraved with initials LGL.


Figured full stocks, each with chequered birds head butts. Steel mounts comprising pommel caps each with fluted line-engraved borders and extending up the back of the butt, a splinter of wood missing from one of the pistols by the lock, trigger guards in the French fashion with foliage finials, and each engraved M on the bow. Horn tipped ramrods, with some original finish. Overall length 38cm.


The maker is probably Joseph Mendizabal, recorded in Palencia between 1780 and 1825.
