Very Rare Cased Pair of French 80 Bore Breech Loading Hammer Pistols For Annular Ignition Cartridge
A very rare cased pair of French 80 bore breech loading hammer pistols for annular ignition cartridges by Le Page Arq. Er Du Roi AParis, circa 1832. With octagonal, sighted rifled barrels, 25cm. Pivoting to the left for loading, signed in etched gothic script along the top flat and decorated with etched panels of foliage on each flat at the muzzle and breech, the bottom flats etched Acier Fondu in gothic script, border engraved tangs each decorated with scrolling foliage involving respectively; a horned, moustached grotesque mask, and a monster. Shaped fore ends, each signed either side of the spring barrel catch, and decorated with scrolling foliage, variously inhabited by birds, monsters and grotesque masks. Enclosed action, foliate engraved hammers, inhabited by a wolf, and hind respectively, and each with two dolphin heads each with fish tailed spurs. Chequered figured, rounded butts, each with fluted ovoidal cap, tang plates and spur trigger guards, each engraved with differing designs of foliage inhabited by serpents, and wolf heads, and retaining traces of original finish.
