An Antique Pair of 20 Bore Flintlock Silver Mounted Turn Off Queen Anne Pistols by Maskall, Early 18th Century, with cannon barrels, 13.3cm, breeches each engraved Londini and each with foliage and pairs of spears engraved at the rear. Border engraved tangs, each decorated with foliage, secured by a screw and with trefoil shaped finial over the breech. Signed border engraved actions, trigger guards each with trefoil shaped finial, figured rounded swelling butts, each lightly carved with foliate apron around the rang and with moulded borders. Cast and chased mounts comprising pierced foliate sideplates, foliate escutcheons indistinctly engraved with owners crest and grotesque mask butt caps. London proof marks and unidentified barrelsmiths mark RB in a heart. Overall length 30cm.
Richard Maskall II is recorded as allowed to prove, paying foreign duties in 1717. He was free of the gunmakers company in 1720 and was dead by 1724.
