Originally a British made pattern 1913 bayonet this example is one of over 500,000 that was retained and re-marked for issue to U.S. forces. The single edged, fullered blade is marked on one side U.S. with previous British marks struck through. The opposite side has the model date of 1913 and underneath with 8 17 suggesting it was re-issued in August 1917. The wooden grip is complete and has two vertical grooves to differentiate from the British Pattern 1907 bayonet. The leather scabbard is in very good condition and has a metal throat and chape, both marked with the makers letters GF inside an oval standing for the General Fireproofing Co. of Youngstown, Ohio.
