Finding The Value of Antique Guns

Valuing antique guns is arguably more difficult and nuanced than valuing many antiques.

Antique guns aren’t as available as say, a longcase clock, and largely due to a dislike of guns in general, or a lack of understanding, antique guns can’t be listed on many of the popular trading websites such as eBay.

This makes finding comparable examples difficult, and without a proper understanding of the item and its context, finding similar examples often isn’t much use anyway.

Having your items sent to auction is one option, though you can spend hours researching an item, taking it to an auction house to have it appraised, for it then to sell for half the estimate and you're left having to pay commission on the sale anyway!

Auction houses offer little consistency, and often smaller auction houses will have little specialist knowledge, and there is a significant amount of luck on the sale day as to who is in the room and what they’re prepared to pay.

Selling your antique guns to us offers none of this risk or time pressure, simply fill out the contact form below or bring your guns into the shop, we’ll let you know what you’ve got and make you an offer. Easy.

Once we have received your contact form, one of our team will take a look at the antique(s) that you wish to sell and be in touch with you to discuss further.

The value of an item depends simply on what somebody is prepared to pay for it. Details such as condition, maker, age etc are factors of the item’s characteristics that make it more desirable, therefore more valuable, to one collector over another.

As experts in antique guns, we have the experience and knowledge to judge your item for what it is, and provide a realistic and honest offer.

I've Found An Antique Gun, What Do I Do?

We get a lot of enquiries from people who’ve been clearing out a deceased relative’s possessions or similar and have found antique guns.

Simply send us some photos via the contact form above, and in the vast majority of cases, we can identify and value an antique gun (subject to physical inspection), and have the gun collected from you.

Some items require more investigation than is possible by photographs alone, which is why we can have the gun collected, evaluated and can make an offer, entirely for free. If you would prefer to keep the gun after we’ve made an offer, we’ll gladly ship it back to you free of charge.

If you’re fortunate enough to have found or inherited a large collection of guns, or are simply looking to sell your collection and can’t bring it to us, we can also travel to you to view your collection and make an offer.

Our specialists go up and down the country regularly, so if you’ve a collection of antique guns you’d like to sell, contact us today.Pepperbox Pistols
