"This is an example of the yatagan bayonet for the French model 1842 musket without a scabbard. The blade has rust spot and pitting throughout with the manufacturers name and model number visable on the spine. The iron crossguard also has pitting to it. The brass hilt has age related marks and the release button is still operational. It is believed large numbers of this type of bayonet were purchased by agents acting for both sides during the American Civil War.
