"A 25-bore double barreled flintlock carriage pistol circa 1760 by Clark, Holborn, London with two-stage barrels each with turned girdle and signed in full in capitals along the top flat of the octagonal breeches, and each engraved with a line of beadwork at the rear, silver fore-sight, gold-lined touch-holes, border engraved tang grooved for sighting and decorated with foliage and matching lines of beadwork, flat bevelled detented locks each signed in capitals within a garland and decorated with foliage on the stepped tail, gold-lined pans, foliate engraved safety-catches, cocks and steels, the latter each joined by a link to the engraved steel-spring with small acorn finial, figured half-stock, border engraved steel mounts comprising trigger-guard with acorn finial and decorated with a flower-head on the bow, spurred pommel decorated with a flower-head on the domed cap, turned ramrod-pipes, set-triggers, and original horn-tipped ramrod with iron worm, London proof marks and Clarks barrelsmiths mark. From The Keith Neil Collection having a Keith Neil tag numbered P42. Barrel Length - 25cm. Overall Length - 42cm. ** Provenance - John Clark was apprenticed to Jonathan Stanton in 1756. He was free of the Gunmakers Company in 1766 and was elected Master in 1776. He was a member of the Honourable Artillery Company and is recorded as having moved to Ireland in 1798"
