An antique Rare Pair of 54 Bore Percussion Pistols for the American market, with German barrels and W Chance & Son London and Birmingham proof marks Circa 1850 - with ocatagonal white metal sighted barrels 15.5cm in length inscribed ""London"" in gothic script within a scroll work on the flats by the breach. Scroll engraved steel tangs inlayed with two german silver lions and fitted with german silver plug, scroll engraved german silver tangs fitted with back sights and extending in a slender panel engraved with wriggle work over the spine over the butt, signed engraved flush fitting back action locks fitted with dolphin hammers engraved en suite, figuered half stocks (one foreend with small cracks) checkered rounded butts, engraved german silver mounts comprising trigger guards and butt caps with hinged circular engraved steel covers. Barrell bolt escutcheons and forend caps brass tipped ramrods with iron worms.
William Chance and Son & Co. are recoded in London circa 1840 - 1856 as American merchants. Their main premises were at 152 Great Charles Street, Birmingham though they ,arked thier guns London, between 1835 - 1845 they supplied the AMerican fur company with guns
