A rare cased 18-bore Forsyth patent sliding primer sporting gun by Forsyth & Co. Patent Gun Makers, London, No. 2748, circa 1821 with rebrowned twist three-stage sighted barrel and octagonal breech becoming polygonal and signed along the top flat, recoloured breech with two gold lines, replacement primer with quick release joint and engraved with a gamebird and foliage, foliate engraved tang, signed serial numbered border engraved flat lock with characteristic foliate decoration inhabited by two gamebirds on the tail, hammer en suite and with detachable hammer-nose, figured half-stock with some minor repairs and rechequered grip, iron mounts with characteristic foliate engraving comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard, trigger-plate with engraved pineapple-shaped finial, horn fore-end cap, silver escutcheon with traces of owners crest, and original brass-tipped ramrod: in fitted mahogany case lined in green velvet with some accessories including G. & J.W. Hawksley powder-flask with embossed body, leather shot-belt and cylindrical bone priming-flask, screwdriver and a bone container, the interior of the lid with illustrated trade label of the fourth design for 1816 to 1830, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle centred on a circular brass escutcheon, London proof marks. 80cm barrel.
