A Pair of Hiatt Darby Patent Brass Leg Irons, circa 1851, possibly for the Navy or on prison hulks. Of brass shackle construction with Darby patent locking system. Iron cross chains with pivoting central link. Stamped 1851 on one shackle. With turned brass key, stamped with WD and broad arrow, and crowned 6 and prominent 3. In good working order. Shackle internal diameter 10cm, overall length 43cm.
