A Pair Of 25-Bore Flintlock Boxlock Turn-Off Pistols By Brueton
A pair of 25-bore flintlock boxlock turn-off pistols by Brueton, probably Thomas of Birmingham. Circa 1775 with cannon barrels numbered 1 and 2 respectively, breeches numbered to correspond. Border engraved actions each signed within a scroll on both sides. Foliate engraved tangs, sliding trigger-guard safety-catches each engraved with a flower-head on the bow. Figured swelling butts each decorated with silver wire scrollwork and flowerheads, cast and chased silver mounts comprising foliate escutcheons each engraved with owners monogram above a flower-head, and grotesque mask butt-caps. Tower private proof marks (2).
Barrel Length - 18.5cm. Overall Length - 32cm.
