An antique 49 bore double barrelled percussion sporting rifle by Charles Lancaster, 151 New Bond Street, London. Patent smooth bored rifle, circa 1850. Featuring russet twist sighted oval bore barrels, matted rib signed in full and leaf sighted to 300 yards. Each leaf features a thin medial gold line. Case hardened breeches engraved with a scallop shell and foliage between and each with short platinum line and pierced platinum plug.
Barrel length, 79.3cm. Overall length, 120cm. Grooved border engraved case hardened tang. Signed border engraved case hardened detented flat locks and hammers. Hammers feature a safety stop in front. Figured half stock with chase queried grip at for end. Bust features cheek piece with border engraved steel trigger guard and chequered butt plate. The former with chequered spur. Trigger plate with engraved pineapple finale. Hinged circular border engraved patch box cover. Vacant silver escutcheon. Sing mounts, original brass mounted ram rod. Some original finish. London proof marks and Lancasters barrel-smiths mark. Charles Lancaster is recorded at 151 New Bond Street, London between 1847 - 1854. He was granted British patent number 13161 for oval bored barrels in 1850.
