A cased pair of Scottish 50-bore percussion duelling or target pistols by Alex.r Martin of Glasgow circa mid-19th century with browned twist octagonal sighted barrels each signed in capitals along the top flat, foliate engraved case-hardened breeches each with platinum line and plug, border engraved case-hardened tangs each with back-sight and decorated with foliate scrollwork, border engraved case-hardened detented flat locks each signed in capitals and decorated with scrolling foliage, dolphin hammers and safety-catches engraved en suite, figured half-stocks each with white-metal fore-end cap and chequered rounded butt, steel spur trigger-guards retaining some original blueing and each decorated with foliate scrollwork on the pineapple-shaped finial and border engraved bow, vacant white-metal escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, adjustable set triggers, original brass-mounted ramrods, and some original finish: in original brass-mounted mahogany case fitted and lined in burgundy velvet with some accessories including G. & J.W.H. Fire-Proof brass-mounted powder-flask, and steel bullet mould, the interior of the lid with original makers label, exterior of the lid with shaped brass escutcheon incorporating a flush-fitting brass carrying handle, Birmingham proof marks.
