An antique 28 bore Saxon wheellock holster pistol dated 1587 probably Dresdon. Two stage swamp barrel dated and stamped with a mark Neue Stockel 3841 over the breech, 39cm barrel. Blued flat lock retained by two side nails, fitted with external wheel retained by a large circular brass bracket engraved with scale pattern. Sliding pan cover with button release, dog, dog spring and safety catch with filed details. Full stock inlayed with engraved stag horn plaques and segmental lines over the for end. The rear portion profusely inlayed with scrolling ball flowers within segmental frames. A large pair of engraved stag horn side nails, washers opposite the lock. Scroll work plaques about the tang, compressed spherical pommel decorating en suite and inlayed with a warrior profile rondel. Steel trigger guard, engraved stag horn ramrod pipe and for end cap. Wooden ramrod with engraved stag horn tip, 61cm.
Two pistols decorated in this manner and formally in the collects of William Goodwin Renwick were sold Sotherby and Co, London. 21st May 1973 lot.150.
