An antique fine Ottman Balkan percussion blunderbuss with two stage barrel, encrusted with a gold sunburst fore-sight and with scroll work over the breech.
Breech tang of shaped outline encrusted with gold linear ornament and an inscription. Enclosed side-hammer action encrusted with further designs of gold.
Barrel 33cm, overall length 57cm.
Figured walnut stock inlaid with silver wire scrolls and small pellets over its entire surface, with further inscription beneath the butt. Steel trigger guard decorated ensuite with the barrel. Hinged butt cap decorated in gold with a trophy of arms.
The transcribed inscriptions read Amal-E-Parzarin Adam Usta. Its maker is Adam Usta of Prizren.
Prizren in Kosovo was part of the Ottoman empire until the first Balkan war 1912-1913 when it became part of Serbia. Prizren was a very important arms centre and even armouries from Istanbul had arms made for them.
