An Austrian 25 Bore Wheellock Sporting Rifle (Muller Bucshe), signed Balthasar Zellner, probably Johann Balthasar of Salzburg, third quarter of the 17th century. With octagonal sighted barrel, 83.6cms, slightly swamped at the muzzle and rifled with seven grooves, breech cut with a line of bead work and signed at the top flat beyond. Ovoidal brass lined makers mark between (Neue Stockel 8595) tang engraved F. Rounded lock retained by three side nails and with enclosed wheel. Finely chiselled cock, cock spring and sliding pan cover, the latter with release button, moulded figured full stock, (some bruising and repairs).

Carved sliding patch box cover, steel mounts including serpentine side plate and curved trigger guard. Turned baluster ramrod pipe, set trigger, horn for end cap, sling mounts and possibly later horn tipped ramrod.
Overall length 120cms.
