A rare 40 bore (.500) percussion Lancaster patent military match rifle by Charles Lancaster, mid 19th century. With brown sighted barrel, rifled with four bright grooves, retained by two blued barrel bands, and engraved Lancasters Patent along the top at the breech. Calibrated folding adjustable back sight, signed border engraved flat lock, signed, full stock with chequered grip and forestock.
A rectangular vacant silver plaque on the side flat, steel mounts including unusual trigger guard, sling loops, original steel ramrod, and some original finish. Birmingham proof marks. Barrel length 92cm, overall length 133cm.
