A 20-bore flintlock turn-off pistol by Pickfatt, London, circa 1750, having a three-stage turn-off cannon barrel engraved with a band of foliage forward of the breech, the latter border engraved, signed in capitals beneath the steel-spring, engraved LONDON along the top, decorated with a line of acanthus at the rear, and struck with London proof marks and barrelsmiths mark of Charles Pickfatt.

Border engraved rounded cock and steel, tang decorated with foliage, trigger-guard engraved with a flower-head in an oval on the bow, figured swelling rounded butt, cast and chased silver mounts comprising trophy-of-arms side-plate, vacant foliate escutcheon surmounted by a scallop shell, and grotesque mask cap. In good working order.
Barrel Length - 13.5cm. Overall Length - 31cm.
** - Provenance, Charles Pickfatt, son of Humphrey 2, was free of the London Gunmakers Company by patrimony in 1719 and his proof piece submitted in 1724. He is recorded at Holborn (by Beaufort Bldgs. Corner) and was Contractor to Ordnance between 1727 and 1756, and to the Hudsons Bay Company between 1737 and 1756, the year before his retirement.
