A cased Irish 60 bore percussion six shot pepperbox revolver by Wm. & Jn. Rigby, Dublin, 1851. With hand detachable fluted barrel block, 7cm. Engraved with characteristic foliage in front of each nipple and on the rib between each muzzle. The spindle serving as the ramrod, foliate scroll engraved nipple shield and bar hammer, the former each retained by two screws.
A cased Irish 60 bore percussion six shot pepperbox revolver by Wm. & Jn. Rigby, Dublin, 1851. With hand detachable fluted barrel block, 7cm. Engraved with characteristic foliage in front of each nipple and on the rib between each muzzle. The spindle serving as the ramrod, foliate scroll engraved nipple shield and bar hammer, the former each retained by two screws. Blued sprung barrel block release studs, border engraved rounded action and trigger guard, retaining traces of original bluing, and both engraved with characteristic scrolling foliage, the former signed in gothic script on a scroll over both sides, border engraved butt, decorated en suite, blued thumb piece safety catch with chequered stud, blued trigger, chequered figured rounded grips, and traces of original finish. Overall length 20cm.
In original oak case, lined in plum velvet, with accessories including Dixon & sons brass mounted three way powder flask (minor dent), retaining most of its original lacquered finish. With oil bottle, screwdriver, nipple key, cleaning rod, brass charger and bullet mould. Together with a key for locking the case. The interior of the lid with original makers trade label, with 24 Suffolk street, Dublin address. Exterior with vacant circular brass escutcheon.
