A .650 (16 bore) percusion sporting rifle by J. Purdey of 314 1/2 Oxford Street, London, Circa 1832 with brown twist octagonal sighted barrel, signed in full along the top flat, rifled with 10 spiral grooves and leaf sighted from 100 to 300 yeards, each leaf with central platinum line and with a mount for a long range sight (missing in front) border engraved case hardened recessed patent breech with platinumn lines and peired platinum plug, bright tang, signed border engraved case hardended serial numbered detented flat lock decorated with a prone stag in a landscap and foliate scroll work on the tail. Dolphin hammer en suite, engraved safety catch, figuered half stock with cheek peice, checkered grip and foreend, the latter with dark horn cap. Associated border engraved steel mounts comprising butt plate decorated with a gun dog pusuing a pheseant in a landscape, trigger guard and trigger plate (slightly pitted) retaining traces of engraving the chekered spur, the latter with pineapple shaped finial, adjustable set trigger, London proof marks and James Purdey barrel smith mark. Barrel Length - 99.9cm. Overall Length - 129cm.
