A .451 Whitworth Patent Percussion Match Rifle by James W. Rosier of Melbourne, circa 1865. With browned barrel, 81.8cm, cut with Whitworth hexagonal rifling, signed in front of the calibrated folding adjustable rear sight and engraved Whitworth Patent at the breech. Border engraved case hardened breech with platinum plug. Signed, detented lock and hammer en suite, blued safety stop in front of the latter, figured half stock with chequered pistol grip and fore end.

A .451 Whitworth Patent Percussion Match Rifle by James W. Rosier of Melbourne, circa 1865. With browned barrel, 81.8cm, cut with Whitworth hexagonal rifling, signed in front of the calibrated folding adjustable rear sight and engraved Whitworth Patent at the breech. Border engraved case hardened breech with platinum plug. Signed, detented lock and hammer en suite, blued safety stop in front of the latter, figured half stock with chequered pistol grip and fore end.

The foremer with border engraved case hardened ovoidal cap with hinged circular butt trp cover, the latter with dark horn fore end cap. Border engraved russet mounts comprising butt plate and trigger guard, vacant silver escutcheon, sling mounts, original steel ramrod with turned revolving head and much original finish. London proof marks. Overall length 125cm. James W. Rosier is recorded at various addresses in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, between 1864 and 1900.
