An antique 80 bore bridge loading needlefire rook rifle by John Rigby and Company, Dublin and London, circa 1870.

An antique 80 bore bridge loading needlefire rook rifle by John Rigby and Company, Dublin and London, circa 1870.


Blued octagonal sighted barrel signed along the matted top flat at the bridge. Leaf sighted to 150 yards and rifled with 12 grooves. Case hardened, action engraved with scrolling foliage and signed in gothic script on the ribbon on one side.

Blued threaded bridge plug with chequered side lever and automatically adjusting the hammer to half cock. The hammer with wing headed screw retaining the needle, figured butt with chequered pistol grip and stamped orv 13467.


A weakened silver escutcheon between ovoidal cap, chequered detachable forend with dark horn cap, steel mounts end suite with action with original finish and Birmingham proof marks. Barrel is 59.5 cms, overall length 141.5cms.
