An antique 20 bore Balkan flintlock Kubur holster pistol, 19th century probably Boka Kotorska, Ionnina O Jannina. Tapering barrel chiseled with gradient all scrollwork and inlayed with brass panels over the breech. 29.2cm. Barrel retained by a broad silver muzzle band chiseled with foliage against a punched gilt ground and enriched with niello, the tang overlaid with nielloed silver plaque. Border engraved lock fitted with roller, full stock very slight damage encased with finale nielloed silver against a punched parcel gilt ground decorated with a running pattern of flows and foliage over the for end and the butt, the latter with integral pommel, matching trigger guard and simulated ramrod. Overall length, 48cm. This pistol forms part of a group that were almost certainly made for the Greeks at the court of King Otto in the third decade of the 19th century as part of the Greek romantic revival following the war of liberation. Another example is illustrated in Elgood 1995 pg.62-63. Another pistol of this sought was sold by Thomas Del Mar auctioneers n the 27th June, 2012. Lot 96.
