Late 16th century armour for the field mostly made in the Augsburg workshop of Anton Peffenhauser, circa 1590

A good compsite late 16th century armour for the field mostly made in the Augsburg workshop of Anton Peffenhauser, circa 1590. The armour was probably made for a youth in his late teens. Close helmet of good form, with a one piece skull and a high elegant combe decorated along its length with file cut roping. A simple viser lock is fitted, together with a visor locking stick hook. The helmet has been completed by the fitting of a (modern) visor prop in the Augsburg Peffenhauser fashion. The main plate is struck with Peffenhauser and Augsburg marks. The breast plate is truck with Anton Peffenhauser marks. Breast and back plate with Augsburg and Peffenhauser marks. Tassets are of five lames, the left is original and the right is a replacement that matches. Arm harnes cowters, the right is original with Augsburg mark. The left is a 19th century restoration. The left gauntlet is genuine Augsburg made and the right restoration. Both legs have small restoration. There are a pair of short tassets for field to tilt use. The entire armour has had museum grade, expertly done, restoration work.
